Studio City Gets Speed Trailers
Studio City has adopted speed trailers in an effort to reduce the amount of speed related auto crashes on their streets. The project came into action following a recent fiery car accident on Ventura Boulevard that tragically resulted in the deaths of three adults. The office of Councilmember Paul Krekorian has decided to work closely with the LAPD Valley Traffic to cut down on dangerous speeding in Studio City and beyond.
The latest speeding related incident was on September 9th and it was highly publicized. It was when a speeding vehicle crashed into a local Studio City pizzeria, which subsequently caught on fire. Reports stated that three people were killed in the accident. Firefighters at the scene of the accident believe that if it was not for the fire, the victims would have had a higher chance of survival.
The office of the Councilmember has noticed that there has been a recent uptick in speeding incidents, some of which have fatal consequences. The office has initiated their efforts to improve vehicular safety for the public areas and neighborhoods. The first phase of this initiative will be to use speed trailers. They will install a speed trailer on Ventura Boulevard near Tujunga Avenue. When vehicles drive past the trailer, they will be able to quickly tell the speed of their vehicle if they forgot to look at the dash. The idea is if they are reminded about how fast they are going, then they will slow down.
Setting up speed trailers where previous crashes have occurred is typical of the Councilmember’s office. They previously secured a one at Magnolia Boulevard near Ben Avenue, where another accident that made major headlines occurred. A set of women were electrocuted to death while they were attempting to save a crash victim who may have been speeding down Valley Village street before the vehicle crashed and exposed a major electrical current.
The office also set up a speed on Riverside Drive and Oakwood Avenue where speeding has been a general concern of residents.
“As a society, we have to say enough is enough,” Councilmember Paul Krekorian told the Patch. “My office will do everything it can to encourage safe driving, but the drivers who put lives at risk throughout the San Fernando Valley have to slow down and realize that there are horrific consequences to speeding and recklessness.”
Additionally, Councilmember Krekorian will be participating in a Driver Safety Fair slated on October 20 at Notre Dame High School. The event will bring awareness of hazardous situations to families and will teach ways in which the situations could be avoided.
