A man died in Northern California on Thursday after being pulled into a wood chipper, according to authorities.

The man was working to help remove debris and downed tree branches outside of Sacramento when he got stuck in the wood chipper. Apparently, the man was trying to feed something into the wood chipper when one of the ropes attached to the machine got caught around his neck and pulled him into it. According to authorities, the man’s body was not pulled all the way through the machine, but got stuck halfway through.

The machine is used for chopping large trees and branches and is difficult to turn off unless the operator has their hand on the off-switch. Police are still investigating the incident.
