United States’ Food and Drug Administration has used the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) to close down a nut processing factory that produces nut items like peanut butter. In September the factory was forced to recall large batches of its peanut butter after various consumers were found to have contracted Salmonella from them, most of it was due from the factory’s unsanitary conditions and their mishandling of the nuts.

An animal trainer was found mauled and dead inside a bear pen in Montana. Authorities were forced to shoot one of the bears used for filmmaking to recover the body of the trainer. Investigators are attempting to determine if the brown bears killed the man or if he had died prior to the attack, they investigated on Monday.

A young boy was found dead by authorities after he fell and was attacked by a pack of dogs at a wild African dog exhibit at a Pittsburgh zoo Sunday morning. His mother and other visitors saw in desperation as the wild dogs bit into the child, they were unable to stop the dogs. An ongoing investigation has closed down the zoo to the public indefinitely.

As hospitals increase the amount of advanced medical devices they use in their facilities, the more prone they are to being interrupted or disabled by viruses. Patients are put at risk for personal injury when one of these devices gets infected. A pattern of increasing vulnerability of medical systems being riddled with malware was revealed at a government meeting.

Manufacturers have adopted similar technologies used in airplanes to increase the convenience of steering vehicles, allowing drivers to soon be able to steer their vehicles with a joy stick from any seat inside of the vehicle if they want. Nissan will be the first major auto manufacturing company that is prepared to unveil how they adopted this technology and is ready expose it to showrooms and the general market by 2013.

Over a dozen Fisker Karma plug-in hybrids were burned at a shipping facility in New Jersey after first being submerged in seawater as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

While the storm happened in the East Coast of the United States, its devastating affects reached the Pacific. It is reported that at least sixteen vehicles produced by Anaheim based Fisker Automotive were burned at the Port Newark fire after being submerged during the storm.
