A 19-year-old man was sentenced for a hit-and-run accident in which he killed a bicyclist. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 200 days of community service and $14,000 in restitution to the victim’s family.

The man was exiting the I-405 near Warner Avenue when he struck a bicyclist on the side of the road. The bicycle rider flew off of his bike and landed in the far right lane. He sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

The driver then sped off without calling the police or contacting paramedics for help. Another driver stopped and called 911, while someone else tried to resuscitate the bicyclist until police arrived.

The 19-year-old called the police about a half an hour later to report seeing a body on the side of the road. He denied hitting the man and was later arrested when police arrived at his house and saw his damaged car.
