Reservoir Dogs Actor Michael Madsen Gets DUI
“Reservoir Dogs” actor Michael Madsen has been released from a local Los Angeles area hospital after police arrested him and charged him for allegedly driving under the influence. He had been driving erratically on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu according to his attorney who was fighting the allegations Thursday. Apparently Madsen was on certain medications which might have tweaked the blood alcohol content results. His arrest was a result of the law and the fact that people who decide to drive while under the influence of alcohol are more likely to be injured in a car accident.
According to authorities, Madsen the 54-year-old actor had been complaining of an undisclosed medical problem after his arrest on Wednesday. He was behind the wheel of a red Pontiac GTO on Pacific Coast Highway when police first spotted him driving erratically.
After pulling him over authorities administered routine alcohol tests on the actor who has also been in other Quentin Tarantino movies such as “Kill Bill”. Results of preliminary testing stated that Madsen had a blood alcohol level of .21. The legal alcohol limit is 0.08 according to Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. His level of alcoholic intoxication was more than two times above limit allowable by law.
Perry Wander, Madsen’s lawyer, said that the actor had been taking prescription drugs. The effect of the drugs may have deterred the blood alcohol content results. “Michael has been on prescription medication that easily could have made him look to be under the influence and caused him to fail the sobriety test,” Wander said.
Madsen’s antecedent events have shown that he may have an alcoholic addiction problem, and his attorney agrees. “His nemesis is white wine,” Wander said. “Obviously he’s going to have to utilize this experience to motivate him to get help. It’s an ongoing battle.” Madsen has struggled with alcoholism and has been in and out of rehabilitation centers over the past several years, Wander said.
According to SF Gate, back in March, Madsen was arrested at his Malibu home after what detectives said was a drunken fight with his teenage son. Prosecutors, however, declined to file charges because of a lack of evidence.
