Out of Control Accident Ends in Driver Death
A sun filled ride in a red convertible ended in disaster as the vehicle lost control and smashed into another vehicle Wednesday evening in Laguna Beach.
The crash was reported at around 7:30 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway in an unincorporated area between Newport and Laguna when a Honda S2000 sports car, traveling northbound at high speeds, lost control and collided with oncoming traffic.
The vehicle failed to maintain its line along the lane, veering over into the southbound lanes, where it was met by a black Chevrolet SUV.

The collision reduced the sports car to a pile of smashed metal. The entire right half of the car was squished like a wadded up piece of paper, rendering the whole vehicle hardly recognizable.
The force of the impact sent the car spinning back into northbound lanes before it finally came to rest along the side of the road, outside of lanes.
“We’re lucky it was just a two-car collision,” said Humberto Jimenez, a responding officer from the California Highway Patrol, when noting the situation of the accident.
Little is known about the identity of the driver of the sports car; more information will be released when authorities have sorted out the particulars of the crash. Fortunately, the driver of the SUV, a female, was uninjured in the crash.
Officers shut down one lane of PCH to clean up the debris and remove the mangled car from the scene, and to look for any other factors that may have been in play in the accident.
The Pacific Coast Highway can be a dangerous road to traverse. A number of peaks and valleys, combined with numerous traffic signals and pedestrian crossings mean that traveling at high speeds has an extremely high chance for a harmful or fatal accident like this.
