Hit-and-run Driver Arrested after Santa Monica Crash that Killed Pedestrian
SANTA MONICA, CA (August 5, 2021) – Police arrested a driver suspected of hit-and-run and DUI in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian early in the morning on Monday in Santa Monica. Authorities identified Nicholas Sloan, a resident of Culver City, 29 years old as the suspect they arrested.
The August 2 crash occurred on Santa Monica Boulevard in the 3100 block.
The time was roughly 1:05 a.m., according to Santa Monica Police.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, staff at Busby’s Bar/Restaurant had asked Sloan to leave the establishment. Authorities allege Sloan was angered by the incident, and he got into his vehicle–described as a Porsche.
Authorities allege that Sloan attempted to run a patron over with his vehicle, on purpose, close to the front of the bar. The suspect is alleged to have struck a person, and left the scene, authorities said. Authorities cite witness accounts and evidence, reports say.
Responders arrived and found the victim. They transported to him a hospital in the area. He died in the hospital.
The identity of the victim, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Authorities later located Sloan, who was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and driving under the influence.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call Detective Tavera. The number is 310-458-2201, ext. 2256.
