Crash in Porter Ranch Kills Mother, Injures 3 Children; Father Arrested
PORTER RANCH, CA (June 10, 2022) – Late at night on Thursday in Porter Ranch, a single vehicle crash killed a mother and injured three children. Authorities arrested the husband and father on suspicion of DUI in the June 9 crash, which occurred on the 118 Freeway.
The time was roughly 11:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
According to Steve Geraty, who is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle–described as a Lexus–went off the road of the westbound freeway near Reseda Boulevard.
The car traveled past a guard rail and hit the embankment on the right shoulder.
The impact of the crash broke the fuel line, and the car erupted in flames, according to Geraty.
Four officers with the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team saw the crash happen as they were going home, reports say.
The four officers were able to extricate four of the family members. They could not rescue the mother and wife, and she died at the crash site.
The woman was identified only as 31 years old.
The young children were identified as ranging from an infant to 12 years of age.
Responders transported the patients to the hospital.
According to Geraty, the father and husband faces charges that include manslaughter and DUI.
The family members’ names have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
