Two Cops Injured in Hit and Run Accident
Two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department are recovering from injuries sustained in a hit and run accident early Monday morning in Venice.
The officers were driving down Pacific Avenue in their Police Interceptor at around 2 a.m. when a speeding SUV crashed into the rear of the vehicle and drove off.
Little is known about where the SUV was coming from, why it was speeding, why it slammed into the back of the police car, or why it drove away from the scene, though the last one does seem a little clearer than the first three.
The force of the impact sent the squad car out of control, up onto the curb and through two bus benches near the intersection with Washington Boulevard.
Witnesses to the accident ran to the officers to see if they were alright. “I [ran] to him and saw that some people [took] him out of the car and I [asked] him, “Hey man, can you move your legs? Because it’s important.” Said a man named Adrian.
One of the officers lost consciousness as a result of the crash. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. A spokesman for the LAPD told local news that the officers were improving, and that they will be OK.
Police are still on the lookout for the dark colored SUV that hit the cruiser. Anyone with information that can help lead to an arrest is encouraged to call the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.
