Son Warns Florida Mother Not to Drink Prior to Auto Crash
Police in Florida arrested a woman on the highway shortly after she crashed into a sports utility vehicle that was pulling a trailer and fled the scene – with her children in the back seat of her car. The woman that is from Boynton Beach now faces DUI charges and a case of “I told you so’s” after she crashed her BMW on Interstate-75. She admitted to authorities that she had drunk three and one half bottles of wine prior to the crash. There were two children in the car at the time of the accident and neither suffered serious injuries.
When authorities were contacted about the hit and run, they found and pulled over the allegedly intoxicated woman Janet Malizia at about mile marker 113 on I-75. Florida Highway Patrol troopers stated that inside her vehicle was her 11-year-old son, who handed a cup of wine that was inside the vehicle to authorities.
The child then proceeded to explain to authorities how his mother had gotten to her current state after she had pulled over and purchased the alcohol from a local gas station prior to being pulled over.
Malizia’s arrest occurred a few minutes before 7:00 p.m. between the Immokalee Road and Bonita Beach Road exits, WPTV reported. She was reported to have smashed against an SUV that was pulling a trailer on the highway and fleeing the scene.
When questioned by troopers, the mother admitted to it being wrong that she was drinking and driving while her children were in the vehicle. She admitted that out of five bottles of wine she purchased at a gas station, she had drunk three and a half.
According to various reports, her child said that he went into the gas station after waiting for her a long time. When he found her inside he told her she should not been drinking.
The mother is facing two DUI charges, one count of leaving the crash scene – all which are misdemeanors.
Local authorities contacted the father after arresting Malizia to have him pick up the children from the scene.
If the driver or any passengers in the vehicle that were the victims of the hit and run were injured during the car accident, they may be eligible for financial compensation.
