Driver Injures 9 People after Crash in Los Angeles
July 31st ─ 9 people are injured, one of them critically, after a van plowed into a group of people dining on a Mid-City Los Angeles sidewalk Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:47 p.m. Sunday afternoon at 5088 W. Pico Boulevard, where a sit-down restaurant called The Fish Spot, is located. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver of a white van ran through a red light and struck a passing vehicle at the intersection of W. Pico and Redondo Boulevards. The impact caused the van to jump the curb, careen though a fence that encircled the restaurant’s patio, and into a crowd of people who were dining outside. Witnesses said they saw the driver getting out of the van appearing to be disoriented. The driver then attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by witnesses until police arrived. The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run by responding officers. He was transported to the hospital after suffering from medical distress, police added.
2-Year Old Boy Fatally Struck Outside Home in Fontana
July 24th ─ a 2-year old boy, who just celebrated his 2nd birthday on Monday, was accidentally struck and killed Tuesday morning by an SUV driven by a relative who was backing out of a driveway, according to Fontana police. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when Fontana Police Department received calls of a child who was run over. A family member, who neighbors later identified as the child’s own grandmother, was backing a 2003 Ford Expedition out of a driveway in the 16500 block of El Revino Drive. The grandmother was re-parking the SUV in order to make room for more family members who were on the way. The SUV struck the boy, whom no one had noticed snuck out and was behind the vehicle, according to Fontana Police. “It seems that a family member went to move the vehicle,” said Fontana police Officer Jay Sayegh. “There was something taking place in the house this morning where, the child, unfortunately, followed the family member outside”.
2 Killed in Fiery Crash in Orange County
July 17th ─ two people are dead after 2 vehicles collided on the transition from the Costa Mesa Freeway (55) to the Garden Grove Freeway (22) in Orange early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when a truck veered off the freeway and struck another vehicle, before crashed into a guardrail, went airborne and overturned on the transition road to the 22 West. The truck was engulfed in flames by the time first responders arrived, according to California Highway Patrol Officers (CHP).
2 Killed in Fiery Crash in Santa Clarita on 4th of July
July 6th ─ a man and a teenager are dead after a head-on collision between a BMW and a Honda Accord in Santa Clarita early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Decoro Drive and McBean Parkway in the Santa Clarita Valley. According to the Santa Clarita Sherriff’s Department, the driver of the BMW was travelling north at a high rate of speed on McBean Parkway when the driver lost control. The Driver then clipped a tree before he crossed over the center median and into the southbound lanes, slamming head-on into the Honda. The coroner’s officially released the names of the drivers killed in the crash as 34-year old Joel Thomas Godfrey, driving the BMW, and 18-year old Collin Charlie Gore, driving the Honda Accord. Godfrey was pulled out of the BMW by people at the scene just seconds before it burst into flames. He was pronounced dead by first responders. The impact of the collision caused Gore to be ejected from the Honda where he landed onto the pavement, he was also pronounced dead at the scene.
