Motorcyclist Injured in Freeway Tumble
A motorcyclist is recovering in an Orange County hospital after an accident on the 55 Freeway early Thursday morning in Orange.
The 26 year old resident of Orange was riding down the southbound lanes of the major freeway when control of the bike was lost and the rider went down to the ground hard.
The crash was reported at 3:25 a.m. near the Chapman Avenue off-ramp, according to the traffic log from the California Highway Patrol. Officers said that drivers on the scene called in about a motorcyclist on the ground near lanes.
A witness on the scene pulled over to the side of the road and directed traffic around the hurt rider while paramedics were en route.
According to CHP officer Denise Quesada, the motorcyclist was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment of major injuries.
The man was riding a 2004 Suzuki sport bike, though it is not known if the rider was operating the vehicle at high speeds or was making dangerous maneuvers.
Police are investigating the crash to determine if anything else was in play in the accident, or if the rider simply lost control and went down on his own.
The Chapman Avenue off-ramp was closed down as officers scoured the area and crews cleaned up the wreckage. It was reopened a few hours later.
