Jet Ski Woman Helps Boating Accident Victims
A female jet skier’s quick call to action was the catalyst a boating accident victim needed in order to be rescued from drowning and receive prompt medical attention.
Kern County Boat Patrol sped through the choppy waters of Isabella Lake on June 30th in response to a distress call made by a female jet skier.
A man had accidentally fallen off the side of boat and another jumped in to help him while a young girl stayed aboard Saturday shortly after noon. A female jet skier near Auxiliary Dam noticed the commotion and went near the scene for a closer look and noticed the pair of bodies in the water. A man was struggling to keep the man from drowning while splashing around and attempting to keep his own above water as well.
Quick to react, she contacted authorities about the incident and jumped into the water to help the victims. She noticed that one of the adult males was doing the best he could to keep the other from drowning for what seemed like eternity and was near the point of exhaustion to keep the other above water. The woman then took ahold of the unresponsive man to ease the burden of the other exhausted male to keep the unresponsive victim’s head above water.
KCBP, with a Liberty Ambulance EMT aboard rushed to the scene. They pulled the victims onto the boat and immediately the EMT began to perform CPR on the unresponsive male. Meanwhile, the patrol boat rushed to shore at Launch 17 where two ambulances and Kern County Fire Department personnel were readily waiting to help the victims.
The unresponsive victim was airlifted to San Joaquin Hospital in Bakersfield where he is listed to be in critical condition. Further details, per the hospital spokesperson will be available at a later time.
According to the Kern Valley Sun, the other victims were transported via ground to Kern Valley Hospital.
There are many ways to increase water sport safety, one of them is by wearing a flotation device that is sized correctly and is in accordance with Coast Guard specifications. This precaution can help reduce the risk of drowning of everyone that is on boat if calamity strikes. Kern County Park & Boat Patrol constantly reminds their residents that children under the age of twelve must wear a properly sized personal flotation device.
