Country Singer Randy Travis Arrested Naked and Intoxicated
Sans clothes, country music singer and actor Randy Travis was arrested for an alleged DWI after crashing his vehicle. Authorities said that the country singer was verbally assaulting them in the process and is now being charged with “retaliation”, TMZ reports.
Travis, 54-years-old originally from Marshville, North Carolina was involved in a solo car crash which was attended to at about 11:59 p.m. Tuesday night in Texas. Officers received a call at about 11:18 PM from a person who stated that there was a man lying in the roadway.
When authorities arrived at the scene they found Travis naked and bruised and a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am had driven off the road and slammed into several barricades in a construction zone. He was not wearing a single garment of clothes and his behavior was that of an intoxicated person. When offered to take a breathalyzer exam, he refused and therefore had to be handcuffed and transported to get blood drawn to be examined.
A Pontiac Trans Am registered to Travis lay crashed off Tioga road according to Tom Vinger, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Upon an initial investigation, the Trans Am had plowed through multiple construction zone barricades.
Authorities then escorted Travis sans-clothes to jail in their vehicle so that he would get his blood drawn to determine his level of intoxication. “Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication,” stated a Grayson County Sheriff’s Office document.
En route, per TMZ, he made threats to “shoot and kill the Troopers working the case.”
At the station police gave Travis a shirt and a paper outfit for the booking photo. His booking photo shows a bruise to his eye and cuts to his face, which he allegedly incurred during the crash.
Other details surrounding Randy’s arrest are unclear. He was released Wednesday on a $21,500 bond. Travis faces charges of driving under the influence, retaliation or obstruction before a judge in Sherman, which is about 60 miles north of Dallas. The investigation is ongoing and blood results are pending.
This arrest marks the second this year for the country singer. The first was in February for public intoxication in front of a Baptist church after a fight with his girlfriend.
